Bush’s Inaugural Speech: A Declaration of War

As George W. Bush took the presidential oath of office his posse was salivating and celebrating the triumph of deception, greed, oppression, tyranny, torture, the expansion of the military industrial complex, the profits from the sale of dangerous pharmaceuticals and their main goal, to control the world’s energy resources. George W. Bush’s posse:

In his well-orchestrated speech Bush lauds, “ the durable wisdom of our Constitution” but in the past four years he has consistently done everything in his power to sidestep “the deep commitments that unite our country” the Constitution and he has done so with the blessings of a Republican Congress. One of his most egregious violations to the Constitution has been to allow law enforcement the right to search and seize a person’s home without a search warrant. This is a fundamental breach of the Fourth Amendment that guarantees “The right of the people to be secure in their own homes… against unreasonable search and seizures….”

“At this second gathering, our duties are defined not by the words I use….” Is this man so ignorant that he cannot or will not acknowledge that his “words” do play a significant role, not only within our borders but abroad as well? It was Bush’s 2003 State of the Union address (his words) that set off an anti-gay firestorm calling on Congress to pass an anti-gay Constitutional Amendment. It was his words that spearheaded an avalanche of anti-gay ballot proposals in 13 states during this election cycle, all of them were voted into law.

His first inaugural speech set the stage for the invasion of Iraq. He said, “We will confront weapons of mass destruction, so that a new century is spared new horrors.” Was this a warning and the beginning of a campaign of disinformation of WMD’s in Iraq? Certainly, the invasion of Iraq did not spare the world of the horrors and carnage of war.

In the next few paragraphs of his speech where he begins to prepare us for the next invasion and occupation when he says, “There is only one force [the United States] of history that can break the reign of hatred and resentment, and expose the pretensions of tyrants… and that is the force of human freedom.” He is correct, human freedom is a powerful force but he neglects a basic truth. “…Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and institute a new Government.” Those words were written by the people and for the people of the United Sates of America when they declared their independence from King George. Yes, the people have that right; the people of Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Iraq, Iran and other sovereign peoples have the right to abolish their governments. That truth does not give George W. Bush the power to abolish it for them.

George H. W. Bush the 41st president and father of George Bush spoke often of “prudence,” just as our founding fathers did in the Declaration of Independence. “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all Experience has shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed.” Yes, the people of Iraq, Iran and many other sovereign peoples are living and suffering under some type of tyrannical or rogue government but it’s their responsibility to rise-up and overthrow theirs, just as we did in 1776.

Dubya” beats the drums of war:

Violence will gather, and multiply in destructive power, and cross the most defended borders, and raise a mortal threat… The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.” Of course people should live free but when he speaks of the expansion of freedom” he’s saying, regardless of the sentiments of a sovereign people the US will impose its will and free them of one form of tyranny to another. Don’t get me wrong, if the people of any country like those in Haiti, Sudan, Rwanda, Malaysia or even the Sunnis from Southern Iraq call and beg for our help, we should be partners in their struggle for Independence and self-governance. Just as the Polish and French came to our aide when we asked for their help to defeat King George III of Great Britain in our war for independence.

Then he says, “All who live in tyranny and hopelessness can know: the United States will not ignore your oppression, or excuse your oppressors. When you stand for your liberty, we will stand with you.” So, Mr. Bush will you help the people of the Sudan? These people have been begging for US intervention. Yet, the most you’ve done is made a declaration to the United Nations, calling the action of the Sudanese government “genocide.” Where are the troops? Where’s the humanitarian aide? And where is the help to the Palestinian people? They’ve also asked for our help and you’ve simply ignored them.

In no uncertain words he made it clear to the people of Iran to prepare for war because the United States will invade any “nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world” whether or not they ask for our help. If the goal is to end tyranny does it mean he’s also going to invade Cuba, China, Vietnam, Syria, Jordan, or North Korea?

He says, “This is not primarily the task of arms.” But we’ve seen he just doesn’t have the prudence or the patience for diplomacy. Instead he beats the drums of war and in haste puts our Nation and the world at greater risk.

His new disinformation campaign:

“Some have unwisely chosen to test America's resolve, and have found it firm.” We now know Saddam Hussein had no WMD’s to attack the US. So, why did Bush lie to the people of the US and world as if there was impending doom?

“We will persistently clarify the choice before every ruler and every nation: The moral choice between oppression, which is always wrong, and freedom, which is eternally right.” He dismisses the moral choice of diplomacy over war.

What we are witnessing is a return of “Nation Building” something Bush promised not to do during his first presidential campaign in 2000. It’s not just nation building that’s a concern but the return of deposing or assassinating other nations’ leaders regardless if they’re elected democratically or not. This is not mere rhetoric but fact: elected president Salvador Allende of Chile was assassinated with the aide of the CIA; a US led attempt to depose democratically elected Hector Chavez in 2002; the US military removed Haiti’s democratically elected president Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004; democratically elected president of Guatemala Jacobo Arbenz was removed from office in the 1950’s with the help of the CIA… and the list goes on. It appears Bush is following in the steps of post WWII American foreign policy to destabilize regions, in the name of “protecting America’s interests.”

We the people must be vigilant

Bush claims to protect America’s interest, the fact is he perpetuates lies and disinformation to achieve the stated goal of an extremist right wing, neo-conservative group, “The Project of a New American Century.” Their ultimate goal is the expansion of “American global leadership” or Pax-Americana in order to control the world’s energy resources under the pretext of protecting America’s interests.

With the many resources particularly the Internet, we the people must take our civic duty seriously and keep a close watch of the “Republican Revolution” that began with Newt Gingrich.
