Redner sues Hillsborough commissioners

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

A Tampa business owner famous for filing lawsuits on behalf of adult businesses is now heading to court and he plans to take several Hillsborough County commissioners with him.

Adult business owner Joe Redner filed the lawsuit in Hillsborough County court on Tuesday. It names the following county commissioners as defendants: Ronda Storms, Brian Blair, Jim Norman, Ken Hagan, Mark Sharpe and Tom Scott. The only commissioner not named is Kathy Castor, as she was the only commissioner who voted in June against a ban on county sponsorship of gay pride events.

Render is suing the commissioners in both their individual and official capacities about the new policy, which he said is based purely on hate.

Redner said he's seeking injunctive relief and cited a Colorado case to help in his fight. None of the commissioners named in the lawsuit could be reached.
