Whites Only prom

It seems to more than a few of us that Whites today are turning back the clock on issues regarding race, the convenient part about that for many of them, is many are too young to have actually witnessed the civil rights era, and feel they can actually approach the reality of multi-cultural agendas as if they are the victim or underdog.

This is not one of those examples. This is about Taylor County High School, A school which held its first integrated prom not in ‘60’s, not during the ‘70’s, or ‘80’s, or ‘90’s, but just last year 2002. One of the good things about the civil rights era is that the emerging Black southern voter population pushed the hard-core racist redneck to the backwoods, where they belong. When it became time for the successive Black urban political and industrial power-base to play a major role to rebuild cities like Atlanta into the international metropolitan center it is today, “Bubba” wasn’t a factor. Albany GA is one of those backwoods towns, they just so happen to have some Blacks still living there, and a small number of juniors still clinging to their parents and grandparents twisted ancient values.

The result, a return to the segregated high school prom they’ve had in that rural town for 31 years. Taylor has 439 students, 232 of them being Black (no more than 207 are White). The humorous part about this is the reasoning behind it, as you probably guessed they wanted to avoid problems that can arise from interracial dating. You know, like INTERRACIAL SEX, and PREGNANCY, and uhmmm, SHOTGUN WEDDINGS, or at least SHOTGUNS. Did I forget to mention INTERRACIAL SEX? I say humorous because Blacks and Whites share an interracially sexual history that is as old as their interracial animosity. That’s right, I’m going back to slavery.

Truth be told boys and girls, as hard as many Whites publicly state they want nothing to do with us, when left to their own devices, a significant number of them find it impossible to keep their hands off of us. Much has been said about the White man’s ageless imposing himself on Black women, but not much is spoken about the Black man’s fascination about White women. That’s because no such obsession exists with most brothers. Even today the number of Black men you know who are into White women you can count on one hand. The silent truth behind Black male/White female relations, is that it is the White gals who have initiated contact between us.

Shocked you say? It ain’t hard to figure after all, since way back in slavery the Black man knew he was putting his life on the line by chasing the White female, and most realized she just wasn’t worth the trouble. This was true especially when the brother was able to see through the social status that White women were elevated to, and compare her pound for pound to the Black woman, and see no superior gain from his relations with Mary Lou, and Peggy Sue. In turn the White woman became persistent in her quest for what she saw as the greater physical appearance of the Black man as well as the storied increased sexual satisfaction for herself. So her persistence turned into cunning and blackmail, and White girls by default became the prime instigators of interracial sex. Why ya’ll buggin’ you know I’m telling the truth.

Today Black men prefer they’re own female counterpart in spite of continued heavy White media-influenced skin color fixation and over-glorification of White women. Yes other Blacks and Whites who grew up together have relationships that transcends outside influence-as is no doubt the case with a few of the kids in the Albany GA community-but little is said about them.

Though the Associated Press quoted one Black student as crying, this episode is really nothing to cry about. The secret about Whites is they are much more attracted to us than we are to them. This in spite of Blacks historically knowing more about Whites than they do us. The big hurdle for Black students to cross is to learn instead to pass out flyers inviting us to ourselves, and internal-race love, respect, and knowledge.
